Why I love doing commissions

Commissions are a window into life and love. When people want to create a bespoke piece of art, it's most usually a gift, to commemorate or celebrate something important in their lives, so it's an unbelievable honour to be invited into this.

There are a few types of commissions I do:

  • Tiny toys/pets: these are a gorgeous way to get a piece of original, bespoke art without a huge price tag! They are little pen and ink portraits of a pet, child's most loved toy or even a favourite flower/plant, and I frame them in a teeny box frame that I hand paint. I'll need good quality images to work from, and the process usually lasts 2 weeks from initial sketches (that I share) to the final piece. From £50
  • Handpainted frames: there are a few pieces on the website that are very popular, like the bewjewelled beetles, so I paint them on demand and then create bespoke handpainted frames, so you get a complete, ready to hang/gift piece of art. You have input into the colours you want, how many and whether you want additional decoration on the frames. These can usually be ready within 2-3 weeks. From £150 for beetles + frame as an example
  • Botanics: favourite plants or flowers to honour, commemorate or gift. Usually pen and ink, with a handpainted frame, however paintings on canvas are also possible. The process varies, depending on subject and media but I share along the way so that you get to input and have a fairly clear picture of what you'll get at delivery! 2-6 weeks and costs usually land somewhere between £180 - £450
  • Names or letters: a favourite gift for godchildren, these are usually pen and ink and fall into 2 styles: Framed animal or plant illustrations with an initial or full name, or a decorative name sign. The process starts with an in-depth briefing where I show you different references, then initial sketches and onward! 3-8 weeks depending on level of detail needed and costs usually come in between £80-250

I hope that answers some of your commission queries! As I said, I love doing them and I'm super open to different subjects and ideas. I'll always be very honest and upfront if the project doesn't sound like it's something that fits my style (and I can help you find the right artist!) so any thoughts, please do just send them my way.

Drop me a mail on Thursday.Arts.Club@gmail.com and I'll get back to you asap. I can't wait to hear your ideas!
