New year, new beginnings? Building an art business
Share
I love the new year. The promise of change, the sense of hope, the fresh energy that comes with turning a page. Every January feels like a small pause, a moment to reflect… I wonder how long it will last!
This time last year, I officially began Thursday Arts Club. I had returned to painting and drawing for this first time since school, rented a studio space so I had somewhere to go (after struggling with not 'going' to work anymore!) and launched my website.
At the same time, I felt unsure and untethered. I was still holding onto a freelance contract with my old agency, grateful for the safety net but aware that I hadn’t fully committed yet.
From Safety Net to Self-Belief
A year on, that safety net is gone and suddenly everything ahead of me is, well, entirely down to me. Terrifying.
I’m not big on traditional New Year’s resolutions, but I do like to put down a few words to help guide myself when I inevitably get distracted, over excited or demotivated. This year, they are commitment and longevity.
Commitment does not come naturally to me. I’m someone who loves movement, change, always ready to with an exit plan. I get bored easily, and I’ve often run before I had the chance to fail. But no more! Now, I’m choosing to build, however long it takes.
My focus is on:
-
Developing my artwork
-
Learning how to grow a small creative business (WTF)
-
Making Thursday Arts Club sustainable in the long term
Art That Brings Nature Into Your Home
Thursday Arts Club is rooted in one simple idea:
nature-inspired art has the power to make people feel good in their own homes.
For me, nature holds the key to mental wellbeing, inspiration, awe and peace. So expressing nature through art, and then having this artwork in the home, is a no brainer. Peaceful yet uplifting, I want art to be affordable, original art and designed to help you bring the outside in.
Thursday Arts Club values...
What matters most to me is creating environments that support wellbeing. I want Thursday Arts Club, my own artwork and other beautiful pieces we sell to:
-
Help people feel more confident choosing art for their homes
-
Inspire children to explore creativity and self-expression
-
Encourage all of us to slow down and appreciate nature in all its forms
Art doesn’t have to feel intimidating. It can be comforting, playful, a quiet presence that makes everyday life better.
Looking Ahead
So, with that, Happy New Year.
I hope 2026 brings you happiness and health.
I hope you get to take walks outside.
I hope your home feels peaceful and joyful.
And I hope we all remember to have a little fun amongst this serious adult life we live!
